Life-long influence
I met Dr. Watt when I was 18 and a freshman at IUPUI, young, skinny, awkward, completely unsure of myself as a person. I remember just being in awe of him as a person. He seemed larger than life to me and back then, had a total coolness factor that made learning accessible. What I learned from him went way beyond math, it felt like life lessons. In fact, when I opened the alumnus email and saw he was named Professor of the Year, all those lessons came back, and I remembered Dr. Watt fondly.

I was a student in one of Dr. Watt's classes. In my opinion he is an awesome instructor and is a dedicated professor who knows how to motivate his students to strive for excellence. Dr. Watt is a dynamic and powerful communicator who possesses the ability of being able to make complex subjects understandable; he is also an approachable person that shares his extensive knowledge with others. Any time whenever I secured an appointment with Dr. Watt for advising I would walk out of his office a real changed person. His advice would unlock things whenever I thought I had reached a dead end. He is also quite passonate as he does all these.

I walked into Dr. Watt's office looking into the possibility of completing my math BS degree three years ago. Dr. Watt looked over my transfer credits, and recommended the math degree with the teaching option. He spelled out exactly what classes I needed, and was the most interested counselor I have ever spoken with. He made me feel like I could actually complete my degree---a goal I had been pursuing at 4 other colleges for the past twenty years. (on and off). Dr. Watt is the ONLY counselor who actually answers his own telephone when you call him, and although he is a busy person, he ALWAYS has time to speak with me about the details of my progress, and is very encouraging. I expect to graduate this May, and I actually believe Dr. Watt is a large reason for my success here at IUPUI.. Absolutely a true story.
